I'm in a band! We made a thing!
AUGUST 13, 2015
The big news of the day is that my Piano Per Diem Kickstarter reached its goal with hours to spare!
I'm thrilled - and humbled. And more excited for this project than ever!
Over the next couple of weeks I'll be getting myself organized so I can hit the ground running on September 1st!

Summer projects are afoot!
I just sent a score off to The Fourth Wall Ensemble (called Dear Friend and based on spam text). To counterbalance the quirkiness of my recent work on this and other spam-related pieces, I'm working on a more serious piece for Transient Canvas, Shenpa, to be premiered in the fall.
In the background, I'm gearing up for a big project in September. Details to follow soon!

Oh, hi! If you're clicking through from Composers Circle, welcome!
If you liked what you heard, there's more where that came from on my Audio page. If you liked the violist you heard (the fabulous Michael Hall), you can hear him on the current edition of the Relevant Tones podcast by heading over here.

I just returned from the inaugural New Music Gathering, which was held at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. It was a a densely packed three days, and I'm going to processing everything I experienced there for a long time to come. I'm feeling invigorated by the conversations I had and the contacts I made - what a great way to kick off 2015! Here's a great writeup of the event by none other than Allan Kozinn

Iron Composer 2014 was an incredible experience. Five hours of composing time went by in a blink of an eye. It was an honor to share the evening with four other competitors: Jason Thorpe Buchanan, Charles Mason, Polina Nazaykinskaya and Gene Pritzker. Jason took home the win, but I got something just as good: the Audience Favorite Award! Many thanks and much love to all who supported me. To read more about the event and to hear all of the composers' submissions, head over here.

This site is still pretty new and will evolve over time. I just added a Events section - happily, September is looking pretty robust!

I'm thrilled to announce that I've been selected to compete as a finalist in this year's Iron Composer competition! The competition takes place in Cleveland, OH on Friday, September 26th. Finalists will be given an instrumentation and a "secret ingredient", and then we'll have 5 hours to make the magic happen. We rehearse in the afternoon, then the works will be premiered at IngenuityFest in downtown Cleveland.
I. Can't. Wait.
